Arland's competitor, Sophia Dryden, was leader of the Wardens at the time and was involved in the plot, and once Arland found out about it the Warden fortress known as Warden's Keep was besieged, and eventually all Warden's inside were killed.
The Wardens were banished due to their involvement in a plot to overthrow King Arland, one of Maric's ancestors. Why would the Wardens need to go to Ferelden, except to go to the Deep Roads underneath? There would be no logical reason, except for special discoveries (such as the discovery of the Thaig that Maric went through in the Stolen Throne, which was one of the reasons the Wardens came back) Eggy2504 ( talk) 10:00, J(UTC) The only location near Ferelden of Warden interest before the Fifth Blight would have been Orzammar, and I think it is stated that the Wardens were allowed to go there (Bregan managed to go to Orzammar to start his Calling before Maric allowed the Wardens back). I always just assumed the Wardens didn't have any reason to go to Ferelden, because there was no need and they didn't want to get caught up in Rebellions and Civil Wars. Sure, there is always that Wardens shouldn't get mixed up in politics but giving the Darkspawn a staging area because of a ban by a technically dead nation doesn't seem too smart.- Navarion ( talk) 10:19, J(UTC) They could have started recruiting Fereldans and building outposts again and probably would have been ignored as long as they wouldn't have interfered in the conflict between the old Fereldan nobility and the Orlesians. Technically the ban of Wardens by King Arland would have been a non-issue as soon as Ferelden was conquered by Orlais.
Yes, I have played Soldier's Peak, but that doesn't really explain it. I'm wondering a bit why exactly the Wardens were absent from Ferelden for so long.
